"Howdy Dew !", or should I say How To Dew It !
Below I will cover sum of the following topiks to help you! More dew-torials will be added when my tooter gits more active!
How to change your
Themes, Desktop, Screensaver, Apearance, or Settings

Lets start with defining what these things are:

THEME: Generally speaking, it's the way that the icons(those lil pictures on your desktop indicating programs or shortcuts) on your desktop page will look. Some THEMES will change the shape of the cursor. (the pointy thing when you move your mouse) If ya don't like the themes that windows provides you can always find more on the internet to suit your needs. HMMMMM How do ya dew it?
When ya git to your home page, ya'll will see a white bar with "SEARCH" after it. Click yer mouse in there 1 time so that you see a line flashing then type: FREE THEMES and click SEARCH once. (we like free) Then just pick and choose the ones you want. At this point you will have to download it and SAVE IT. Make sure you look at "HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND SAVE" before you do this.

DESKTOP: your desktop is the pretty or ugly picture in the background. if you click on the desktop tab you will see the picture that you have now and a box below labeled "BACKGROUNDS" with all kinds of picture names in it. You can click once on any of those and see if you like them. If you dew then just click apply and then ok. Now you will also see box that says position with a down arrow in it. Click on the down arrow and this will allow you to have your picture full size,in the center or a whole bunch of small pictures. The tab "browse" will let you search the computer to find pictures you might have saved somewhere that you want to apply as your desktop, like your wife or husband when you were dating, hehehe.

SCREENSAVER: click on the tab that says "SCREENSAVER" like in desktop it has that lil box with the dropdown arrow and when you click on the drop down arrow it will show a whole bunch of screensavers just click on the 1 that you think you might like and you can click the preview tab and you can get a gander. If you want to keep it just click apply and ok. Do you see the "monitor power" below and the tab that says: "POWER" well ya don't really need to go in there unless you know what ur doin.

APPEARANCE: Well that does just that, you can jack with all the colors on how you want your letters and window boxes to show.

SETTINGS: If your newbie to this you might want to have someone on the phone with you taking you step by step on how to change these. If you don't know what your doing don't go there.

How to Install a New Printer or Clean one!
Ok you just got back from Walnuts with your new printer and your taking it out of the box, pulling all the tape and plastic off it. Then you find the ink cartridges, you take them out of the wrappers and open up the lid on the printer so you can put them in. Dang it you have to turn it on. So at this point you think well I’ll just plug it in to the wall and the computer
WRONG!!!!! STOP HERE!!
It’s ok to plug it into the wall so you can put the ink cartridges in, but go no farther.

Assuming that you have a USB printer cable, (by the way it doesn’t come with the printer, so off to Walnuts you go again) Turn your computer on, stick the DRIVER CD in the drive and follow the instructions until it tells you to plug the USB cable into the computer and the printer is on. Now the computer will see the printer and you will just follow the prompts until it is finished. You can now install any of the print software that came with the printer.

**ANY USB DEVICE, IE.. PRINTER, WEBCAM, SCANNER.. SOFTWARE MUST BE INSTALLED FIRST BEFORE YOU PLUG IT INTO THE COMPUTER**
How to keep your computer clean !

Are you a smoker? Do you live on the end of a dirt road? Do your kids have an indoor sand box?

Here are some tips on how to make your machine last.

If you smoke all that nicotine settles everywhere in and outside the box. You can clean the outside of the box with a Clorox based cleaner by spraying it on a paper towel and you can clean the plastic parts including the drive faces. Unfortunately there is not much that you can do for the inside, you will need to let a pc doctor dew that for you.

DUST: getcha a can of air, you find it at any department store, usually about $3.99 a can. If you look on the back of your computer where all the cords plug in you will see a fan usually located at the top. Make sure that the machine is OFF and UNPLUGGED from the power source and spray the air into the fan until the dust cloud is gone. There are fans inside the box as well. Those can be blown out if you have enough faith in yourself to take the side panel off. If it looks too hard to do, don’t dew it!! Giving your machine a good dusting should be done at least every 6 months unless you have real dusty conditions, then do it when you can spell your name in dust on your desk.

How to Make a CD using "NERO" !

  • 1. place blank cd in cd burner drive

  • 2. click on Nero icon

  • 3. choose from the menu, example: "DATA" = documents, pictures, music that will be played using a computer only,
"MUSIC"(AUDIO)= a music cd that can be played in ANY cd player.
"PHOTO and VIDEO"= pictures and video like what you get off your digital camera.
"COPY and BACKUP" this is used to back up your computer files before you git the critters that screw things up or the blasted computers dies. Kinda like being safe than sorry.
"EXTRAS"= This will be the extra stuff that comes with the program.

  • 4. heres the basic: click what ever tab (data, music, photo and audio, copy and backup) then click "ADD" and a window will pop up. In this window you will need to find where you stored the files that you saved (when you save a file you need to remember where you put it, like in "my documents") I dunno is not the answer unless you have an "I dunno folder"
But there is help yet, you can click on the down arrow in the "locations" thingy at the top of the window that your in and try to find it that way. Or if ya think that your not going to remember where you save stuff write it in a rollerdex, but this usually indicates you have extreme C.R.S can't remember squat Now that you have found your files

  • 5. click on the tab "Add" and you add each file one at a time until your done adding then you click "FINISHED"

  • 6. then click "NEXT"

  • 7. then click "BURN" don't worry it wont catch on fire

  • 8. DON'T TOUCH NOTHIN UNTIL ITS DONE EVEN IF THE CD DRAWER POPS OPEN AND CLOSES AGAIN, IT AINT FINISHED YET UNTILL...YOU GET THE BOX THAT POPS UP SAYING SO !.

  • 9. Click "OK"

  • 10. Click "NEXT"

  • 11. Take your CD out after the drawer opens

  • 12. Click "EXIT" then click "NO" in the window that pops up!

  • 13. YOUR DONE!!!
How to Copy and Paste using "Word" !
This is a real commonly asked question and relatively easy to do.

Lets assume that you are on a website and you found a recipe for some awesome looking cookies and all you want to do is copy the recipe, not the whole article and you sure don’t want to write it down by hand. So let me show you by the steps below !

  • 1. Holding your left clicker down move your cursor arrow on top of the words that you are going to copy. You will see that they are getting highlighted. When you get to the last letter of the word release the clicker, you will now see that all the words are highlighted.

  • 2. Next RIGHT click on any highlighted word and a menu will pop open, LEFT click... COPY

  • 3. Let’s assume that you are going to save the recipe in Microsoft Word. Open the word program and you will have blank page showing. Now RIGHT click on that page and a menu will pop open, LEFT click on PASTE. Now you will see what you copied. EASY HUH ?

  • If you want to print it just push the CTRL key and the letter P at the same time and the print window will open.

What does it mean to boot my computer?

I know maybe some one have heard this phrase at least once and I think several of you have probably thought of giving your computer the boot too!

Here it is in a nutshell:   All the other person on the other end of the phone is asking you to do, is TURN ON your computer. When the computer first boots up or (when you first push the button to turn it on), and that black and white screen with the stuff written on it,....that you haven't the foggiest idea what it is!!! This is the boot screen. If the computer begins to load windows you have passed the booting process
This means to turn off and restart.

USING THE KEYBOARD TO REBOOT:

Press the keys CTRL, ALT, DELETE all at the same time twice (2 times) and your computer will restart. Also if you have a program that is not responding, you can press CTRL, ALT, DELETE one time then click the tab END TASK

How do I install Windows 98?

INSTALLING WINDOWS 98
For years I have seen folks who think they can just do it all and know it all.

Windows 98 second edition is a safer operating system to run than Windows XP in my opinion, but it does have its faults too. You will need a Windows 98 BOOT DISK, WINDOWS 98 CD/ license.

  • 3. At the a:\ type: FDISK press ENTER

  • 4. Select option 4 (if you have a partition you will see it here)

  • 5. Press ESQ if you had a partition use option 3 if not use option 1

  • 6. Answer Y to questions

  • 7. When process is done MAKE SURE YO PRESS ESQ this will bring you to the a:\

  • 8. Press CTRL ALT ESQ all at the same time, this will restart your computer

  • 9. Let computer start with option 1 again (start with cdrom support)

  • 10. At the a:\ type FORMAT C: and answer Y. when done formatting press ENTER twice (2-times) and you will see the a:\

  • 11. Now type: c: and press ENTER now you will see c:\

  • 12. Next type: MD WIN98 and press ENTER and it will go back to c:\

  • 13. Place Windows 98 cd in the drive

  • 14. Type: copy e:\win98 c:\win98 and press ENTER this will copy Windows to your hard drive. When it’s done you will see c:\

  • 15. Next type: CD\WIN98 and press ENTER and you will see (c:\win98)

  • 16. Almost done, now type: SETUP and press ENTER The computer will scandisk when complete press X and continue loading Windows
How to install wireless or wired broadband internet with a static ip

Lemme explain what a STATIC IP is:

  • This is an address (basically a set of numbers) that your local internet service provider gives you, and there are several of them.
  • For most you will get numbers for the IP ADDRESS, SUBNET MASK, GATEWAY, DNS 1, and DNS 2.
  • If you are only using 1 computer to get on the internet you will click on START and go to CONTROL PANEL then to NETWORK CONNECTIONS.
  • In network connections you will see a LOCAL AREA CONNECTION 10/100 you will RIGHTclick on this and go to PROPERTIES
  • You will see a window that has a variety of different protocols (internet rules)
  • You will need to find the one that has the name of your network card ie: realtec tcp/ip
  • Again you will RIGHT click on it and go to PROPERTIES. There you will see 2 boxes and 2 little circles where you can change things. One will say obtain IP address automatically and use the following IP address.
  • And you will also see in the box below obtain DNS server automatically and use the following DNS server addresses.
  • You will check the use the following on both and here is where you will plug all the above numbers in.

USING A ROUTER (2 OR MORE COMPUTERS)

  • Plug the router into the 10/100 ethernet card in your computer. (do not plug the WAN cable into the router yet). The WAN cable is the cable that your internet comes through from the access point.

  • Your router should come with some instructions giving you the IP address to access the router.

  • Some are 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.

  • When you click on the internet explorer button on your computer you should get the page cannot be displayed.
  • You then will backspace until all that shows is http://
  • Here you will type the numbers as shown above. A window should open for a user and password.
  • Most routers will use: admin for either, this will get you into the control panel of the router.
  • Next you will want to go into the WAN and plug all those numbers in as shown in the section above.
  • once done click apply and ok. Now you are ready to plug the WAN cable into the router. Now you should be able to get online.
