HOW DOES A FIREWALL WORK AND HOW CAN IT PROTECT YOUR COMPUTER?

WHAT IS A FIREWALL?

A firewall is like a steel door that protects a computer or a network from anyone who tries to git in from the outside. The firewall scans everything that goes through the point of access, like a modem without having permission. The firewall scans and filters everything according to your settings. Most home computer users use a software based firewall like, ZONE ALARM, or some of the other links above. This program scans everything that goes in or out of your computer and stops things that look suspicious.

WHY DO I NEED A FIREWALL?
Good question! A firewall is really needed if you have a connection to the internet that is always on, such as through a cable modem or wireless or DSL service. Geeez I wish we had more service like this out here, lol!

Anyways with the always on connection bad folks have easier access to getting in to your personal files, like credit card info, social security #’s and stuff like that, or they can even access your email address to send eeeeeew spam .

IS THERE ANYTHANG A FIREWALL WON’T DEW?
Yep it sure won’t scratch your back or deliver pizza and it won’t permanently protect your computer from an attack or keep email viruses or spy ware out. As long as you keep your antivirus and antispyware up to date your will pretty much protected. Having a firewall just makes your computer a little more secure.
